About Nano Banana 2.1
What it does
Nano Banana 2.1 is Google's newest Flash image model and the successor to Nano Banana 2. It takes a text prompt, up to 14 reference images, a reference video, or a mix of them, and returns a still image. Google built it for sharper detail, closer prompt adherence, steadier characters across images, and cleaner text inside the image, at Flash speed. In Image Generator it renders 1K with fast quality and 2K with auto or hd, in 1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 4:3 or 3:4. In Image Editor it edits one to 14 source images and returns a 1K result. It also renders the 2K images in Product Shots and the AI backgrounds in Text Card.
When to use it
- Everyday image generation where speed and price matter: product shots, social graphics, character art and photoreal scenes.
- Combining several references into one image, such as a product, a person and a setting. Google recommends up to 10 object images and up to 4 characters for the closest likeness.
- Turning a short clip into a still, such as a thumbnail, poster or illustration based on a reference video.
- Edits that change one part of a photo, such as the background, a color or an object, while the rest stays the same.
- Short text inside the image, such as labels, signs and headlines.
What to know before you run it
Write prompts as full sentences that describe the subject, setting, lighting and camera angle, and say what the image is for. Put exact text in quotation marks. With references, say which image supplies what and what must stay unchanged. Only the first 8 seconds of a reference video are used. Image Editor accepts PNG, JPEG, WebP, HEIC or HEIF source images up to 20 MB in total. Auto in Image Generator uses this model for most prompts and for every run with a reference video. Every image carries Google's invisible SynthID watermark.
