About Veo 3.1 Fast
What it does
Veo 3.1 Fast is a video model served on pipe2 through the Gemini provider. You give it a text prompt or a still image, and it returns a finished video clip with native audio baked in, with no separate voice or score pass. It is the fast Veo tier: a cinematic look, up to 8 seconds per clip, at 720p, 1080p and 4K. Inside the Video Generator pipeline you can frame the shot as 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4 or 21:9.
When to use it
- You are running the Video Generator pipeline from a written prompt and want a cinematic shot without sourcing footage.
- You have a still image (a product photo, a character frame) and want it animated into a moving shot via the image-to-video path.
- You need synchronized audio to come out of the same run instead of editing sound in afterwards.
- You are cutting vertical or square social variants and need 9:16 or 1:1 out of the box.
- You are iterating on prompts and want the fast tier of Veo 3.1.
What to know before you run it
Resolution is the main cost lever. This model is priced in three separate units (720p, 1080p and 4K, each at 8 seconds), so the resolution you choose decides which unit the run is billed against. Check the cost shown for each unit in the picker before you settle on a delivery resolution, and do your iteration passes at whichever unit suits the drafting stage. A reference image is optional: text-to-video works from a prompt alone, and image-to-video is there when you want to control the opening frame. Note the Video Generator duration menu offers lengths up to 15 seconds, but this model covers clips up to 8 seconds; longer selections fall outside its range.

You may see this listed as Veo 3.1 or Google Veo 3.1 Fast. On pipe2 it is the Fast tier specifically, and the picker prices it by that tier's units: 720p, 1080p and 4K at 8 seconds.
